Well, we’ve been digging out from this blizzard here in Maryland. But, it won’t keep me from making my Super Bowl prediction.
Nawlins Saints vs Indy Colts: Well, I got both predictions right in the Championship games. A lot of people think Indy will easily win the game. Well, I don’t think it’s that simple. This should be a shootout, with these 2 high-power offenses. But, I’m learning that making easy assumptions in Super Bowls is not a good idea. The injury to Indy’s Freeney could really hurt Indy. But, I think both teams will play hard.
Teams in their first Super Bowls usually don’t do well. I would rather see the Saints win since I have been Drew Brees fan for a while. When he came out of Purdue, I thought he would be a good QB in the NFL. But, I think Indy’s postseason experience will be the key. Indy – 32, Nawlins – 29.
Last Week: 2-0 (1.000) Overall Playoffs: 5-5 (.500)
Wow, did Mother Nature slam us today! I thought we were supposed to get a few flurries today, but we got slammed! It was around 5-6 inches of snow here near Finksburg. And, the roads were horrible tonight! I guess they forgot to fire up the snowplows until later today! But, the Good Lord was with us on the roads tonight and we didn’t get stuck on the hill near the house like we normally do. The Lord is far more powerful than that hill!
I have to comment on the Polar Bear Plunge. It’s a fantastic cause, the Special Olympics holds a special place in my heart. But, my goodness, isn’t there a better way to raise money? There is no way on earth I’m plunging into the cold waters of the Chesapeake in the middle of winter! Go ahead, call me a wimp, I don’t care! As far as I’m concerned, you have got to be insane to do the plunge! The human body isn’t designed to take that kind of abuse! I wonder how many folks get sick from this event, there has to be a bunch. But, if you want to jump in the water, go right ahead. I’d rather just write a check for Special Olympics and even get on my blog and tell folks that I think they should support Special Olympics as well!
Also, don’t forget the people in Haiti! One of our Compassion kids is in Haiti and we still haven’t gotten confirmation if she’s OK. We know she didn’t live in an area that was hit hard by the earthquake, but there’s still no word on her or her family’s condition because of the status of communication systems in Haiti. I ask that everyone who reads this prays for Martinesse and her family!
Well, I know the world is just waiting for my picks for the next round. I had the Cowboys figured out, they laid a giant egg!
AFC Championship:
New Jersey Jets at Indianapolis Colts – Well, the Jets just keep proving me wrong. It’s the curse of Buddy Ryan at hand! This will be a good game with the Jets D versus Peyton Manning and the Colts. I think Peyton comes through in this one. Indy – 28, Jersey – 14
NFC Championship:
Minnesota Vikings at New Orleans Saints – Well, 2 teams that have shamelessly run up the score on the Cowboys before meet in the championship game. Needless to say, I don’t like either coach (they are to blame for running up the score), but I do like Drew Brees. I think the Saints match up better against the Vikings than Dallas did and the loud Superdome can’t hurt. The Big Easy gets a Super Bowl party for the home team! New Orleans – 23, Minnesota – 12
Last Week: 2-2 (.500) Overall Playoffs: 3-5 (.375)
Well, I went 1-3 last week, but I’m glad I was wrong on the Cowboys game!
Here we go for this week:
Saturday:
Arizona Cardinals at New Orleans Saints – Arizona survived the shootout with Green Bay by the non-tug of the facemask! It’s hard to pick against Kurt Warner, but it’s even harder to pick against Drew Brees. I’ll have to go with the way these teams have played lately, Arizona’s been winning and New Orleans has been struggling. Upset Special: Arizona – 35, New Orleans – 33
Baltimore Ravens at Baltimore, uh I mean, Indianapolis Colts – Baltimore fans, the hard feelings you may have for Indy are not shared by the players. That was over 2 decades ago and most of the players either were in diapers or weren’t born yet. Even though Indy was human in the last two games, Peyton Manning is the kind of player that is hard to bet against. The Ravens defense isn’t what it used to be and Manning will carve the secondary up. I doubt Ray Rice runs wild this week. It would be nice if I’m wrong though! Indianapolis – 42, Baltimore – 7
Sunday:
Arlington Cowboys at Minneapolis Vikings - I had to get my dig in at Jerrah for the move to Arlington. Anyway, the Vikings had a great year, but stumbled down the stretch. Throw out the game against the Giants, they had packed it in for the season. Brett Favre has made a career of making the plays at the right time. But, he’s never beaten Dallas in the playoffs or outside Green Bay. Adrian Peterson has been average in the last half of the year. Plus, the Vikings O-Line is not really a good match against the Cowboys red-hot defense.
But, I am still overcome with this overwhelming fear that the Cowboys are gonna lay an egg at any moment now. I have a gut feeling that it will happen this weekend in Minneapolis. Minneapolis – 28, Dallas – 24
New Jersey Jets at San Diego Chargers – The Chargers have one disadvantage this year, Norv Turner. His teams usually fold in the playoffs. But, Rex Ryan (son of the evil degenerate Buddy Ryan) is the spawn of satan himself. I used to like the Jets, but cannot pull for them now. I do think justice will prevail and we’ll be relieved of having to see anything related to Buddy Ryan remaining in the playoffs. San Diego – 34, New Jersey – 14
Last Week: 1-3 (.250) Overall Playoffs: 1-3 (.250)
Well, the NFL playoffs begin this week with the wild card round. I’m going to go out on a limb and make my predictions. I know everyone is waiting for these predictions.
Saturday
New Jersey Jets at Cincinnati Bengals: What can I say, I think the Jets backed into the playoffs with wins over teams that seemed more interested in avoiding injury than winning. While the Jets defense is impressive, I don’t think the Jets are prepared to win in the playoffs. If they pull an upset, it will be in Cincinnati, but I doubt that will happen. Cincy – 23, Jersey – 17
Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys: This is a game we could analyze until the cows come home. Dallas is playing great defense right now and is on an unusual late season winning streak. Tony Romo is playing like he’s never played and the team looks like they have confidence. They’ve handled the Eagles twice this season, shutting them out last game. Dallas has never shut out two opponents in a row until this year. They’ve never shut out two division opponents in the same year. They posted a winning record after December 1 for the first time in ages.
But, they haven’t won in the playoffs for the past 13 years. They’ve never beaten at team 3 times in one season. Wade Phillips has never won a playoff game. On the other hand, the Eagles have won playoff games in recent years and even visited the Super Bowl. They have a great QB in Donovan McNabb and a great coach in Andy Reid. Trust me, it’s painful to compliment a franchise I despise so much, but I have to face reality.
With the Cowboys right now, I’m like a person from Missouri, they need to show me what they can do. Until they do, I cannot feel safe picking them in the playoffs. I’m a Cowboys fan and hope that I’m wrong but… Upset Special #1: Iggles – 19, Cowboys – 14.
Sunday
Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots: Wes Welker, Tom Brady’s security blanket, is gone for the season. Brady will have to depend on the referees handing out roughing the passer penalties to be successful. Of course, the way he whines and gets what he wants, they might oblige. But, with the weather expected to be bad, I have a gut feeling on this one…. Upset Special #2: Ravens – 12, Patriots – 7
Green Bay Packers at Arizona Cardinals: The Pack is one of the hotter teams in the playoffs and the Cards are hurting with Boldin and Rodgers-Cromartie hobbling. Part of me wants to pick the Cards, but I think it’ll be…. Packers – 31, Cardinals – 17
All I can say is that I hope the Cowboys prove me wrong! Go COWBOYS!
